Behind the scenes: Our Commitment to Sustainable Packaging at Just Right Design Co.

Have you ever considered the environmental impact of the packaging your greeting cards come in? Before Just Right was even formed, Claire and I walked into a card store and were struck by a wall of beautiful greeting cards, each encased in plastic wrappers destined to be thrown in the trash only moments after being purchased. This moment was a turning point for us, and from day one, we committed to prioritizing sustainability throughout our shipping and packaging. We’ve made changes along the way and we’re always working to learn and do more to protect our planet.

Curious what it looks like for our small business to tackle eco-friendly packaging? Here’s a glimpse into our sustainable packaging approach:

  1. Glassine Bags: We use glassine bags as a stylish and eco-friendly alternative to single-use plastic. These bags are both curbside recyclable and biodegradable, offering a translucent view of the products inside while being air, water, and grease resistant. They’re perfect for ensuring our products arrive in pristine condition. For more information on glassine, including how it’s produced and environmental benefits, check out this blog from our friends at Eco Enclose.
  2. Plastic-Free Card Packaging: Our individual greeting cards are sealed with plastic-free, recyclable card catch stickers. This packaging eliminates the plastic traditionally used to package individual greeting cards.
  3. Eco-Friendly Shipping Labels: We utilize shipping labels from Eco Enclose that feature a release liner made from 100% recycled content, which is also curbside recyclable. It’s our way to ensure that every element of our packaging process supports sustainability.
  4. Recycled Plastic Packaging: For our wholesale art prints, we use packaging made from 100% recycled plastic. This choice helps to reduce the demand for new plastic production and supports a circular economy.
  5. Reuse Cardboard Boxes: Whenever possible, we reuse cardboard boxes to package and ship large wholesale orders. This practice not only conserves resources but also reduces waste.

We’re proud to have our efforts lead to being recognized as an Austin Green Business Leader.
